If you thought Android was going to be an Open operating system for phones, tablets alone? Think again as today Google and several automakers are planning to bring Android to cars with the launch of a new group called the Open Automotive Alliance.
The alliance consists of the search Giant it’s self, GM, Honda, Audi, Hyundai, and chipmaker Nvidia who have just announced a 192 graphics core chip which is perfect for this job. Its primary goal is to “bring the best of Android into the automobile in a safe and seamless way.” The whole group will focus on ushering in Android into in-car entertainment systems and according to the press release, the first cars with Android integration are planned for launch by the end of 2014.
The press release, further outlines its plans for the future, hoping to add more automakers and technology companies in the group. Currently they will focus on new features for Android to allow developers to smoothly add car options to their apps.
First was Apple now Google has followed suit
Last year we saw some cars with Apple’s Siri integration after they announced its own partnerships back in 2012, we have also heard of Microsoft technology embedded in Ford Sync systems found in Fords is based on Microsoft technology. We wait and see what will come out of Google’s partnerships pan out.
