Gadget that lets you hack your brain raises $120,000 on Kickstarter

Had you ever expected to control your Smartphone with just your mind?

OpenBCI is a Kickstarter project that was set out to fund a fully open-source brain-computer interface (BCI) source brain interface platform, and so far the guys behind the project  Joel Murphy & Conor Russomanno have been able to raise over $120,000.

It’s meant to take playing with brainwaves out of the lab environment and puts them in the hands of anyone with a computer. This as been done in order  to speed up the development of brain technology. The team has envisioned a number of scenarios like sending an email from your Smartphone just by thinking about it, or turning the lights on in your home by using your mind. This dream is not far away.

Currently in medical science brain power is already being used to help paralyzed patients move their arms*, but the technology behind the breakthroughs is proprietary. The team wants to speed up development so we open-sourced the core and rolled it out on Kickstarter.

For many of us brain-computer interfacing (BCI) is a relatively new field of science with a seemingly limitless range of applications I mean you can control practically anything. Artists, musicians, dancers, and other creative individuals who want to find new ways of connecting are starting to use both neurofeedback and biofeedback more frequently, making more immersive experiences. The team  envisions BCIs revolutionizing everything from neural gaming and augmented reality to meditation and concentration aids.
