If you want to save photos from Instagram, especially those you want to refer to later, it might not come as easy as you wish. It is even harder if you want to download one that is not on your account.
By default, if you didn’t take the photo, then it is not yours and so you probably have no copyright for it. Additionally, Facebook gives you the option to save your photos to its Collections feature.
If you do your research, you will find a number of sites that let you to download Instagram photos illegally and at the cost of viewing their ads. This also puts you to the risk of malware especially if you are using a PC.
The other alternative is to take a screenshot of the Instagram post, but that results in a lower-resolution file. So, how best can you save a photo from Instagram?
How to save a photo from Instagram
The procedure is very simple. All you need to do is to find the photo you want to save.
After locating the photo, obtain its web link, which you can get from the menu button on the upper right corner of the photo. If you are using the desktop version of Instagram, that menu button is on the bottom right.
On mobile, the URL will be copied to your clipboard. You can paste it in your browser and navigate to it. From here look out for its source file. On Chrome for instance, you’ll find the source file in the View tab, select Developer, and then, click View Source.
The Instagram page’s source file will be displayed. It includes the link to the photo.
Use Control+F or Command+F and search for “JPG” to find the link. Copy the link starting with “https” and paste it in a new tab. The photo should be displayed there in.
You can save or download the photo from here by right-clicking on the image and selecting “Save Image As…”.
