Well, the good news is after nearly a year in alpha testing, the encrypted pathway has finally graduated to the Google Play via Tor Browser version 8.5. This means you can now download it from Google Play Store to your android phone and start browsing the internet anonymously. Or visit the deep and dark web.

It all comes with a yummy new look, and a ‘slider’ pop-up, which allows you to adjust exactly how extreme it drains your data.

The full feature set of the desktop version of Tor browser boasts a lot more, but the Android version is now stable enough to do the main things it is supposed to, and more importantly, it’s inherently possible to add the missing features in future releases.

If you’re not yet up to speed regarding what Tor is then it’s worth educating yourself before diving into using the onion browser. Keep in mind, there’s no official Tor Browser for iOS, and no plans to release one any time soon. The Tor Project claims this is due to restrictions by Apple.
