Ugandan based boda hailing firm Safeboda started on a low key with scheduled trips around Kampala for the uptown but tech savvy folks in 2014 until recently that it exploded. Back in the day, majority of the population hardly believed the fact that one could travel to any part of town without physical negotiations with drivers, delegating the above to an algorithm on an app but overtime it became a reality thanks to the likes of SafeBoda
With over 4500 drivers currently registered on the service in Kampala, SafeBoda has for the past few months carried out research in the Kenyan capital and embarked on a similar recruitment drive in Nairobi, in order to on-board Kenyan drivers on the service as it was eyeing expansion to the city. The service is now live in Nairobi.
SafeBoda will face off with Taxify Boda which launched its services in the same city a few months back. This granted the green service a clean head-start against the Ugandan based moto-taxi hailing firm and also Uber is also rumoured to be on its way.
Safeboda’s new offers for starters
The firm is launching its services with free trips for all riders who download the app for a test ride in Nairobi. The Boda hailing industry in Uganda may currently be dominated by Orange and green camps of SafeBoda and Taxify Boda respectively but the former’s expansion into Kenya brings hope about Ugandans startups crossing boarders to new territories.
