Opera Mini introduces offline file sharing, here’s how it works

Over the years, Opera Mini has been one of the most popular browsers for facilitating quick browsing and data-saving capabilities to most users who prefer to save their data bundles. Opera’s data compression technology is capable of reducing the amount of data being used when browsing by as little as 10% of its original amount, resulting in faster browsing even on slow networks.

Some of the other key highlight features on the Opera Mini browser includes an ad-blocker, night-mode, and an intelligent newsreader, however, the new offline file sharing feature will just be an added bonus for those who would love to share photos, videos and audio files with others without a data connection.

Offline file sharing is already popular via standalone apps like Xender but Opera Mini claims to be the first browser to offer the feature.

To send files this way you’ll need to access file sharing in the browser settings, from there you either choose to send or receive a file from the other person’s device. To establish a connection between the two devices, Opera Mini will generate a QR code which can be scanned by the receiving device to establish the connection.

Once a file is successfully transferred, the sender will be notified, and the receiver will be able to access the file in the Received tab shown in Opera Mini.

Aside from being fast, Opera Mini has integrated offline file sharing directly into its download manager. This makes it easy to share files that you’ve just downloaded without having to manually navigate through the phone’s storage.

If you’d like to try out the new feature, download or update Opera Mini from the Google Play Store. The new feature was launched yesterday in India and the Oslo-based company will slowly roll out the same features to countries with limited network connection including Uganda to expand the way people interact with the Opera Mini browser.
