During these hard economic times when fuel prices are skyrocketing, SafeBoda has started beta testing its Uber-like product called Cars by SafeBoda. The company is synergizing and diversifying its portfolio and venturing into other products that will reside on its super app.
Safeboda is sending email invites to a selected group of users to try out the new car riding service in Kampala. Safeboda officially enters Uber’s territory after its massive success in the boda boda ride-sharing service. The email invite to beta testers which Techjaja has been privy to states;
“We understand that you deserve the finest things in life. This is why we’ve selected you as one of the first to experience the cars feature on the Safeboda app. We want you to try it out and share feedback with us on what works and what to improve. We’ll be glad to hear from you.” See the email screenshot below;

In March 2022, SafeBoda officially launched its payment service. The launch was attended by a wide range of Uganda’s tech, government, and finance community with the chief guest being the head of the Bank of Uganda National Payments (NPS) Systems Mr. Mackay Aomu. The company acquired its NPS license from the Bank of Uganda at the beginning of the year.
This has enabled the SafeBoda app to be used to transfer money from your Wallet to that of other users. Users can also transfer money to other bank accounts at a lower cost when compared to what the other platforms charge. You can send money either to your own account from the SafeBoda Wallet or to a recipient’s bank or mobile money account, even if the recipient is not a SafeBoda App user.
SafeBoda as a company was launched over 7 years ago starting out with a mission to change the way people were consuming boda boda transport services thus entering into the car ride-sharing business is no surprise.
