Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary update starts seeding to users across the globe

Microsoft recently updated its Windows blog about the Windows 10 Anniversary update finally rolling out to Windows 10 Mobile users, especially to those with newer Windows 10 unlocked handsets. Included on the list are; the Lumia 550, 650, 950 and 950XL plus older devices that received a software upgrade (Lumia Icon, 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635, 636, 638, 430, 435 among others according Microsoft.

The blog goes on to say — The Anniversary Update includes additional features and improvements for your Windows 10 Mobile.

To manually check for the update, on Start, swipe over to the All apps list, then select Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates.Note that availability may vary by manufacturer, model, country or region, mobile operator or service provider, hardware limitations and other factors.

The update is not as feature packed as its desktop counterpart but adds media controls on the lockscreen, camera shortcut  and a new universal Skype app according to The Verge.

However these news find Windows 10 Mobile in dire need of a savior with Microsoft itself cutting back on its projections of 1 billion Windows 10 powered devices by mid 2018, attributed to the fact that Windows 10 Mobile handsets are not selling as Redmond had hoped they would.

Rumors about a Surface branded phone set to revive Windows 10 Mobile being in the pipeline also have not so much to save, as they point to the device being an enterprise focus than consumer facing, which would at least draw in more numbers.

Reports also assert that the update is a little close to 1GB so you’re advised to switch to WiFi before the update so as to save on your data plan.
