    Wim Vanhelleputte is MTN Uganda’s new CEO

    MTN Uganda finally has a new boss, Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte replaces Brian Gouldie who’s contract ended in June after two years of service, reliable sources have revealed to this blog. Mr Vanhelleputte joins MTN Uganda from Airtel DRC where he has been the Managinig Director since February 2016. In July 2015, Mr. Vanhelleputte served as an Executive Director for Key Business Unit Within Africa at Bharti Airtel Limited. He was responsible for Bharti Airtel’s strategic business unit comprising Gabon, Congo B, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Madagascar and the Seychelles. Mr. Vanhelleputte served as the Chief Executive Officer at MTN Cote d’Ivoire SA since April 2009. Vanhelleputte has also been a Chief Executive Officer of Tchad, a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E.

    Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte comes to led Uganda’s telecom giant –in a country’s whose telecom sector has stiff competition in both the voice and data markets. The appointment seeks to maintain MTN’s market leadership for the voice and mobile money market (financial inclusion) and pushing the brand forward in this new and bold digital world. He will be faced with several challenges that are common in Uganda’s telecom sector like Mobile Money fraud, high taxes, deactivating unregistered SIMs, to mention but a few.
