Mid last year, MTN in partnership with Simfy Africa launched a super app called Ayoba on the Ugandan market. Akin to Whatsapp, Ayoba is an instant messaging app but with more perks besides messaging than you can get from the green camp, thus the super app moniker.
What is a Super App?
Simply put, a super app is an app that hosts other apps with different offerings or services on top of it. These could be in-house or integrations to the mother app as you’re yet to see.

Below are some of the reasons you should consider downloading the Ayoba App.
- Free MTN Data: MTN offers up to 1GB of data for new Ayoba users on the MTN network every month. This means Ayoba MTN users don’t have to incur any data charges when using the app.
- Money Transfers: With Ayoba on your phone, you don’t need to download a separate app to send or receive MoMo. Its integrations with MTN’s mobile money allow you to do this within the app itself.
- Secure Messaging: We live in a time where app users are cautious about their privacy and who has access to it. With its end-to-end encryption, the app ensures the message is delivered to the intended recipient without even themselves being able to see its contents.
- On-net & Off-net Chats: It’s a rarity that an app allows you to hold conversations outside its confines but Ayoba is an exception. You can send & receive messages from contacts that don’t necessarily have an app!
- Local Languages: If English is not cutting it for you, you can change language settings to Luganda or Swahili on the app! Only a fraction of apps if any have this level of localization.
- Offline Messages: In case you run out of data, your Ayoba messages can still reach you offline as SMS, that is if you’re on the MTN network.
- Ayoba Channels: Channels center around different topics and as a user, you can follow any depending on your interests. This could be news, music among others.
- Play Games: You can as well play games without having to install them individually on your phone or leave the app itself. The app has over 150 titles to choose from so, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
