Why Africell has quietly killed off its SWIFT bundle AGAIN

Well, it seems the carrier is back to its old ways and has yet again scrapped off its SWIFT social media bundle 10 months after its relaunch. This social media bundle allows users to only access Snapchat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with the need to pay OTT (over the top) tax.

When this SWIFT bundle was relaunched back in March this year, it came with increased bundle volumes which lasted for longer periods of time at cost friendly prices to enable many people enjoy the internet experience without fear of expensive costs.

The current USSD menu no longer has the SWIFT option available forcing users to choose from Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Unlimited data bundles all which don’t come bundled with OTT unlike the social media bundles that were scrapped.

So why would Africell kill off a beloved data bundle? According to their customer care they claim the newly reduced data bundles under the NewChapter initiative, would feel this gap for dedicated SWIFT bundle users.

When the SWIFT bundle was relaunched in March, the company CEO said that they made a pledge to their customers to always avail quality, affordable and timely communication solutions. It is in respect to this pledge that Africell announced a much better and more competitive social media bundle than they had before. The pledge has been overridden by the new company’s new chapter initiative as they try to struggle and remain competitive in Uganda’s telecom sector.
