Sometime back a good friend of mine borrowed my laptop for a house party celebration and unluckily, my computer didn’t make it back to me working because the DJ got so drunk and drowned it in a pool of liquor.
Unlike me who never had the chance to save his machine, I have curated a step by step instruction on the first things you should do when you accidentally pour water or any form of liquid on your laptop.
Whatever the case, what you have to remember is liquid and electricity do not mix. When it happens, the water can destroy a great deal of circuits boards and send you into a circuit-shock if you’re not careful.
Step1: Dry your hands and switch off the laptop
Immediately after the spill on the PC, make sure your hands and power off button is dry and free from any liquid.
Press and Hold down the power button for about 5 seconds and the computer will completely shut down.
Step 2: Unplug from the Power source
Next, in line, remove any power source if your laptop is connected to electricity. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery if it is removable. Since you are now safe from the electric shock, you can go ahead and unplug other things like a mouse, flash drives, cables and so on.
A quick reminder when you spill water, luckily you have a clear chance to rescue the computer all by yourself without the help of a professional. However, when something sticky like alcohol or Juice or Coffee spill on it. That is different and most probably a worst-case scenario.

Step 3: Dry off the components with a soft piece of cloth or towel
Unscrew the PC and remove any part that can be open with relative ease. For instance the RAM and Hard Disk. If they are wet, dry them with the help of your towels.
You dry the outside of your laptop thoroughly well with a towel or a soft piece of cloth. Open the screen as wide as you can so that the keyboard and the screen are on the same level, put it under another towel on a clear table.
Leave it for about an hour for the water or liquid to drip out.
After all those procedures, put all your components together and see if it is working. If it fails, take it to a professional nearby as soon as you can so he can save your motherboard from dying.
Keep in mind, all these steps work best when you pour fluids like water on your laptop, but when something sticky like alcohol or coffee spill on it. That’s a different scenario, send it to a professional at once to give it a thorough cleaning but after removing attached devices and the battery if it is removable.
