WhatsApp’s new contact ranking system emphasizes active contacts to none active ones

In an IM (Instant messaging) dominated generation, Whatsapp takes the lion’s share when it comes to mobile usage and its mother company Facebook, battling up for the top desktop usage slot. Even when OTT tax was introduced in Uganda as a mobile money companion, it still dominates and takes the top spot when it comes to instant messaging on smartphones.

In a report published by the IM giant’s WAbeta Info group, Whatsapp now filters contacts with an inbuilt ranking system that automatically brings to top those you care about most. Through, a hidden algorithm that doesn’t in anyway collect any information on app usage, the ranking system depends on how mutual groups and how often you interact with your contacts by viewing their status updates or checking on their updated profile pictures.

This new feature is currently available for IOS beta testers and not yet available for Android testers. Nonetheless, Whatsapp’s new feature is simply great at sorting the right contacts you need in your phone saving you from the hectic process of muting those that sound irrelevant to your IM profile.
