WhatsApp to remove the ability to take screenshots

Taking screenshots from different apps can have pros and cons depending on now where the image will end up. WhatsApp wants to increase security in the application and ensure better protection of personal data, which will prevent taking screenshots or videos of messages that can be opened once. This will prevent private information or images from being recorded via screen recording. We have seen such features implemented in financial-based apps including banks and mobile money platforms.

Announced by Meta (Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg in August, privacy-focused features are starting to come to the messaging platforms that the company has. Finally, version 2.22.22.3 for the Android version of WhatsApp. Which is the most popular of these, is in testing. According to this version, it will not be possible to save screenshots and videos of media marked as “View once”.

When you want to save media with “View once” selected, WhatsApp will display a warning saying “Cannot take screenshots due to security policy”. This change, which was in testing among beta users, received mixed reactions from users.

According to the information conveyed by WABetaInfo, it is possible to take screenshots or video recordings using third-party software. However, it was clear that the recorded image or video was completely black. However, it is worth noting that even if you try to take a screenshot, there is no notification to the other party.

As a classic method, it is possible to take a photo/video using a secondary phone or tablet. In addition, when it comes to WhatsApp Web, we think that users can bypass this security measure with recording programs. It is unclear when this feature will come to the stable version. It is now available in the WhatsApp beta for Android.
