Whatsapp set to introduce the use of multiple devices on the same account

We all know that you can’t use the same Whatsapp account on different devices with the only provision being the Whatsapp web feature. This feature allows anyone to mirror their Whatsapp account on their browsers or standalone desktop apps but Whatsapp is said to do away with these limitations and introduce multiple device support on the same account.

According to Wabetainfo, the latest Android beta update for the app includes new details on multiple device support. Imagine having two smartphones with the same Whatsapp account, both receiving the same messages at the same time but there is a catch!

Much as the feature was spotted, one has to connect the second device via a WiFi connection possibly because it will involve the transfer of chat history from one device to the other and this can take a heavy beating on one’s data balance.

Also, it should be noted that is is a beta, so what might ship with the final version might vary.

    Is Whatsapp copying Telegram?

This is unlikely but not far fetched as we have seen the green messenger introduce features that made Telegram a fan favorite. Such features include the introduction of a desktop client, increasing the file size limit and this yet to be launched multiple device support among others.

The same beta also spots the “Linked Devices” screen with the option of linking a device to one’s Whatsapp account. Currently, it shows sending and receiving messages from your browser, computer or Facebook Portal but the feature is expected to be added here.

The app has been seeing a foray of updates coming its way recently, from increasing its group call limit, curbing forwarded messages among others. This new feature in case it ships will ease the hassle of having to settle for one device for Whatsapp communication.
