Mulago hospital has installed two electronic display boards at both the causality (accidents and emergency ward) and Labor suite 5C.

The boards are meant to shine a light on quacks and thieves that are on the prowl in the hospital. The boards display names of doctors, nurses and interns on duty to help patients indentify who is and is not a
medical practitioner and avoid being conned.

Enock Kusasira, the hospital’s publicist, told journalists last week that the boards would also check the issue of missing babies.

“Every woman who delivers from Ward 5C will automatically be registered from the time she comes till she leaves and the boards would display the names of practitioners on duty for easy identification…,”
    Kusasira said.

He added that the boards will also check medical practitioners’ absenteeism as they would display names of practitioners on duty and these would be held accountable if they failed to turn up without prior
    notice to the hospital administration.

The boards also display announcements of events taking place in the hospital and health education messages in Luganda, English and Kiswahili. They were installed at Shs 19m. In future, the hospital
administration hopes to digitalize birth and death registration and plans are underway to have them installed at the diagnostic ward 2A and
    the mortuary.
