As the digital wave continues to redefine traditional business landscapes, Uganda is not left behind. The annual Uganda Innovation Week (this year’s being the UIW 23) is poised to once again set the stage for networking, partnerships, and insightful discourse.
Hosted by Startup Uganda, UIW 23 is a testament to the burgeoning digital economy, offering a fertile ground for entrepreneurs, investors, and stakeholders to converge, collaborate, and catalyze transformative ventures.
Mark your calendars for the 22nd to 24th of November, as the National ICT Innovation Hub comes alive with a vibrant assembly of innovators under the aegis of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. This year’s theme, “Adapt or Be Left Behind: The Digital Economy & the Opportunities it Presents for the Ugandan Entrepreneur,” reverberates the essence of digital adoption amidst a rapidly evolving economy.

A notable feature of UIW 23 is the Investor Lounge, birthed from a partnership with the East Africa Venture Capital Association (EAVCA). This unique space facilitates one-on-one engagements between entrepreneurs and potential investors.
Additionally, the business-to-business deal rooms offer a platform for corporations to spotlight collaboration opportunities with digital innovators.
Venturing beyond conventional panel discussions and exhibitions, UIW 23 introduces Masterclasses in collaboration with Design without Borders (DWB), melding education with entertainment. Moreover, business clinics are on the roster to aid entrepreneurs in assimilating digital elements into their ventures, addressing pivotal areas such as online payments, digital marketplace integration, and access to online forms of credit.
Doris Odit Acheng, the Country Coordinator of the Uganda Chapter of EAVCA, underscores the profound impact of venture capital funding in East Africa, stating it as a catalyst for regional economic growth and empowerment of local entrepreneurs.
This partnership aims to bridge the funding gap for early-stage startups in Uganda, aligning them with investors who resonate with their vision. UIW 23 is structured along three insightful tracks:
- Ignite & Innovate: Spotlighting opportunities in the digital economy.
- Scale & Succeed: Fostering the integration of digital technology in business models.
- Connect & Collaborate: Advocating for public and private sector partnerships to spur the digital economy.
