Regulating telecommunication companies and all branches of media broadcasting is what Uganda communications commission (UCC) aims at for better service delivery.
Although the South African based lead Telecom operator MTN Uganda was licensed 20years ago on the 15th day of April 1998. The company had to fulfill its obligations and terms agreed upon with the regulatory authority.
According to UCC, MTN applied for a 20 year license implying 2018 is the ready ground to see the Telecom operator revive back for its license renewal. Since other Telecom companies are busy watching the way UCC is adjusting policies every now and then. By late 2018 the regulator may have made crucial significant impacts on the way subscribers use mobile networks.
Putting into consideration the already set measures to investigate MTN’s operations in Uganda. UCC has invited the general public to air their views about the telecom operator once again after making the same calls earlier this year.
While Vodafone Uganda parted ways with mother company Afrimax recently. Negative public views may result in MTN’s denial to operate in the country again so MTN needs the public and other stakeholders on its side. Not forgetting that Airtel was recently commended for being the only Telecom company to adhere to certain policies. MTN Uganda will have to receive a relevant figure if public votes in order for UCC to renew it’s 20 year expired license.
