UCC seeks to obtain your input to develop a standard for digital video broadcast receivers to be used in Uganda

In order to safeguard the interests of consumers and operators as regards the quality of communications services and equipment, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has set out to seek opinions from several stakeholders in regards to the current and future TV broadcasting receiver standards. Currently, UCC has in place the minimum specifications for TV Set Top Boxes (STBs) and Integrated Digital Television (IDTV) sets for Digital Terrestrial (DTT) services. There are no minimum specifications for other types of DTT broadcast receivers such as dongles and broadcast receivers that used on the satellite, cable and IP platforms.

With the purpose of guaranteeing the quality of other broadcast equipment that are to be sold in the Ugandan market, UCC has developed minimum specifications for the rest of the broadcast receivers. In order to minimize the number of specification documents that are provided by the Commission, a “one-stop” document has been prepared to have all broadcast receivers including DTT STBs and IDTVs.

UCC seeks to obtain the input of stakeholders in the development of the unified minimum requirements for digital video broadcast receivers so as to ensure that the specifications meet the technical developments, and current and future market needs.

The stakeholders include, but are not limited to, the manufacturers, broadcasting service providers and broadcasting service users. The stakeholders are thus invited to make comments on all the sections of the document.
