Uber, Old Mutual engage uberBODA users on safety

Uber today hosted a safety workshop engaging with uberBODA Riders, safety & security experts, and officials of Old Mutual Insurance in Kampala, Uganda. The sessions highlighted different topics like where to obtain original boda boda registration details, how to minimize risks and prevent potential accidents while driving, improving wellbeing and stress management for driver-partners, and a thorough run-through of Uber’s in-app safety features for all products offered in Kampala. This comes at the back of the two entities announcing insurance cover for both the rider and the passengers in September last year.

“We are committed to safety and work hard every day to build a better experience for driver-partners.

We realise that boda bodas are a primary means of transportation for many people in Kampala, and that is why we are working towards ensuring safer and more secure trips for driver-partners and riders. At Uber, we follow the same strict safety measures to all our products, ensuring driver-partners and riders have the same seamless door to door Uber experience regardless of how they move around with Uber,” said Aaron Tindiseega, Uber’s Country Lead in Uganda.

Uber is constantly working on making safety better for Riders and Passengers, and that includes listening to those who protect and serve our communities every day. The workshop was designed to give driver-partners access to knowledge and information facilitated by subject matter experts on a wide variety of subjects that are critical to safety while on trips.

Also speaking on the event, Junior Africa; Greenlight Manager for East Africa, Uber said: “Based on the feedback and information from our drivers, law enforcement department and subject matter experts, we developed the tips, which we shared with the drivers. We’re committed to constantly working to raise the bar and improve safety in the communities we serve.”

The safety workshop is part of a week-long Safety-Week initiative organized by Uber as a way of amplifying and reiterating it’s Safety Never Stops’ narrative of making rides safer and more secure for UberBODA Riders and Passengers. Sessions at the Safety Workshop were facilitated by safety and security experts and a specialized local team from Old Mutual.
