Twitter rolls out “Twitter Lite” to Uganda and 21 developing markets

On a compiled list of social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter & Whatsapp take the top slots, as the most used social media platforms in Uganda. While these launched with fully blown apps, we have seen them shrink these heavy apps into lighter versions that can accommodate slow networks and low specced smartphones that majority of the developing world population hold.  Twitter joins the race after officially launching its Lite smartphone app in 21 developing markets that now includes our own Uganda.

We can only hope it rakes up the numbers.

Availability of the Twitter Lite app

Although Twitter started testing its Lite version almost a year ago in Philippines, this marks its debut as a standalone app than a chrome extension. It is more of an appeal to markets that feature people who have a less budgets for data and poor network coverage as earlier stated.
