Using Equity Bank Uganda’s debit or credit cards for cashless payments is convenient, but occasional issues like declined transactions or lost cards can arise. Understanding how to troubleshoot these problems ensures you can resolve them quickly and continue using your card for daily purchases, from fuel at stations to online shopping.
Here’s a practical guide to addressing common card-related issues with Equity Bank’s platforms.
If your card is declined at a POS terminal or online, first check your account balance via the Equity Mobile App or Equity Online to ensure sufficient funds or credit limit. Confirm that the merchant accepts Visa or Mastercard, as some local vendors may have specific card preferences. If the issue persists, your card may be flagged for unusual activity, especially during international use.
For online payments, verify that you’ve entered the correct card number, expiry date, and CVV, and ensure the website requires two-factor authentication (2FA), which may involve an OTP sent via SMS or email.
A lost or stolen card requires immediate action. Freeze your card instantly through the Equity Mobile App by navigating to “Card Management” and selecting “Freeze Card,” or call 0800 221 221 to block it. This prevents unauthorized transactions while you request a replacement at a branch with your ID.
If your card is stuck in an ATM, avoid using machines in isolated areas or at night, as they’re more prone to tampering. Contact Equity Bank during operating hours to report the issue and retrieve your card safely.
For ATM or POS issues, inspect devices for signs of skimming, like loose card slots, before use. If transactions fail due to connectivity, try again with a stable network or switch to contactless payments if supported. If you’re unable to access card features in the app, clear the cache, update to the latest version, or reinstall from the Google Play Store or App Store.
By addressing these issues promptly, you can maintain seamless access to Equity Bank’s cashless services, ensuring your daily transactions in Uganda remain uninterrupted.
