The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is quite busy as regards licenses. After threatening to revoke Africell Uganda’s licenses due to non compliance, another company is seeking Uganda’s mature telecom sector.

UCC under the telecommunications act has the powers to give out telecommunications licenses. However, the commission puts public opinions and/or comments into consideration. In a 4th June public notice, UCC sought opinions from the public regarding Satyam Technical Services Limited’s license application and it will grant it to the applicant within a two weeks if they don’t receive any opinion or comment. Therefore, the public is requested to send their written opinions and comments to the Executive Director UCC.

About Trillion Networks

Trillion Networks’ license application comes at time when UTL is rumored to be sold to foreign companies. However, the company applied to the UCC for a Public Service Provider (PSP) License -Capacity Resale. A Public Service Provider (PSP) – Capacity Resale is issued to persons buying capacity from operators and reselling this to others. Most noteworthy, this may take on the form of international termination and calling cards. However, it does not include the leasing of infrastructure facilities by a PSP to distribute services to its customers. This excludes any person running public pay phone services, fax bureau, and/or Internet café. So hey, you won’t be making calling or surfing the Web on Trillion Networks for now.

Trillion Networks focuses on providing technology solutions to Network Equipment Manufacturers and Telecommunications Service Providers. These can be for planning, deployment and operating wireless and fixed networks.
