Treepz relaunches its app as car-sharing marketplace

Treepz has re-launched its consumer app as a new innovation in the African market. The company has introduced the first car-sharing marketplace in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda that serves over 26 million vehicle owners in Africa.

This marketplace allows car owners to rent out their vehicles for short or long-term periods, providing a more affordable and sustainable option for mobility in Africa.

With over 600 million people living in African urban areas and less than 44 cars per 1,000 people, the demand for affordable transportation options is high. Treepz’s car-sharing platform aims to address this need by offering people the option to rent a car when they need it, and for a flexible rental period.

This approach helps reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions, ultimately leading to a more sustainable transportation system.

McKinsey & Company projects the car-sharing market in Africa to grow at an annual rate of 20% from 2020 to 2030, with an expected market value of $500 million. As Africa’s largest car-sharing marketplace, Treepz is positioned to take advantage of this growth and provide an affordable and sustainable transportation option for people across the continent.

The Treepz marketplace is available on both iOS and Android platforms and features a variety of vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, vans, and buses. Renters or “Guests,” as they are referred to by Treepz, can search for vehicles by location and duration, selecting from a list of several car owners, makes, and models. Car owners or “Hosts” can set their prices, availability, long-term booking discounts, and other functionalities.

Notable businesses such as Wakanow and Tekexperts in Nigeria, Twiga Foods and Diamond Trust Bank in Kenya, and many more organizations in Africa have already been using the Treepz solution for their staff. However, Treepz has now rolled out the consumer side of the service, making it easier for individuals to access vehicles for rent.

Treepz is backed by notable investors such as Google, SOSV, Goodwater Capital, Techstars, and GIIG Africa Fund, which adds credibility to the company and its new marketplace.

Onyeka Akumah, Treepz’s CEO, expressed excitement about the new Treepz, calling it an innovative solution for transportation in Africa. He stated that the company is making better use of the over 26 million vehicles available in Africa to provide commuters with an enjoyable and fun transportation service, whether they are traveling for work or simply exploring the continent.

He added that Treepz is focused on helping vehicle owners manage their inventory, reach new customers, and track their growth, while guests who book from these hosts have the luxury to select their dream car for work, pleasure, or exploration with a vetted driver.

Treepz has spent the last five months building this solution and is thrilled to introduce it to Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya. The company aims to continue listening to its customers and making them happy with every trip they make with Treepz, so this innovation is its way of showing its customers that it has listened and built Treepz for them.
