    Transport Ministry outlines new requirement for driving permit renewals

    The Ministry of Works & Transport has today unveiled new requirements for the renewal of lapsed or expired driving permits. For one to renew a permit that expired more than 2years ago, one will be required to undergo both theory and practical tests.

    This is according to section 42, subsection 4 of the traffic act as amended in 2020. Which states that; “A person whose driving license (driving permit) has for any reason not been renewed within a period of two from the date of expiry, shall on application or renewal, undergo theory and practical test before the license (permit) can be renewed and she or he is allowed to retain the group of motor vehicles endorsed in his or her driving license”

    The ministry of works and transport in partnership with face technologies and Uganda police (inspectorate of vehicles) have also today announced that renewal of expired permits will commence on 15th August 2020.
