The lockdown is still on — at least for most Ugandans– and is gradually being lifted by the government, the internet has been the go-to place for music and other forms of entertainment, given that bars were closed and YouTube never disappointed.
YouTube Charts allows you to see what the hottest artists, songs, and music videos from around the world are. The company occasionally updates the charts based on location and categorizes them in different charts. Which include;
1. Trending chart: What’s new and hot in music right now
The Trending chart highlights new videos that were immediately popular upon release. YouTube’s Trending Chart is updated multiple times a day.
2. Top Songs chart: The most played songs on YouTube
The Top Songs chart highlights the number of views of a song on YouTube. It’s calculated by combining all official versions of a song (including the official music video, user-made videos with the official song, and lyric videos). The Top Songs chart is updated weekly.
3. Top Artists chart: The biggest artists on YouTube
The Top Artists chart highlights the most popular artists on YouTube, based on the total view count of their entire discography – including official music videos, user-made videos with the official song, official live performances, remixes, lyric videos, album songs, and collaborations. The Top Artists chart is updated weekly.
4. Top Music Videos chart: The most viewed music videos
The Top Music Videos chart celebrates the music video experience on YouTube, highlighting the most viewed official music videos on the platform. It also is updated weekly and this is where this article is based.
How YouTube Calculates these Charts
The YouTube Charts break down the most viewed music on YouTube by song, video, and artist score. It should be noted that paid advertising views on YouTube don’t count towards YouTube Charts.
- Top Songs ranks the overall performance of a song on YouTube by view count. It’s calculated by combining all official versions of a song (including the official music video, user-generated content that uses the official song, and lyric videos).
- Top Music Videos ranks official music videos by video view count in the previous week.
- Top Artists ranks the top 100 artists by total views. An artist’s “total views” are the combined views of songs associated with the artist.
