The Galaxy Fold goes on record as one of the most anticipated smartphone makes that turned out to be a disappointment even before it could hit the market. Samsung put off the launch of the $1,980 device, slated for April 26, when the device’s consumer reviews reported a breaking screen within days of use.
Many of complaints that came in were in line with the screen breaking and causing breaks in the functioning. Samsung immediately issued out a statement in regards to the issue stating that the reviewers had attempted to peel off a protective plastic layer that was adhered to the screen itself.
Enter July, and Bloomberg reports that Samsung has finally completed its redesign of the foldable phone. According to the reports, the company is likely to bring back the Fold with its protective screen layer slipped into the phone’s bezels to ensure that one doesn’t try to remove it.
Apparently, for the cases reported back in April, there was a wrap on top of the screen of the Galaxy Fold calling for user attention and asking them not to peel off the protective layer, but still they ended up doing so.
Samsung is reportedly now stretching the protective film to wrap around the entire screen and flow into the outer bezels so it would be impossible to peel off by hand. The company has also restructured the phone’s hinge, pushing it slightly upward from the screen to help stretch the film further when one opens it apart.
The new design is made to firm the film to make it a part of the device rather than the detachable feature it was before. Those familiar with the matter affirm that the new Galaxy Fold will have an invisible protrusion to reduce any chances of a crease developing in the middle of the screen while in use.
Samsung Galaxy Fold launch date?
Samsung has already announced its latest Unpacked event for August 7th where the company will be unveiling the Galaxy Note 10, the latest in its line of super-sized stylus-equipped smartphones. However, it is unlikely that the company will launch its foldable phone at the event.
With Huawei having its foldable Mate X on hold, while doing rigorous testing to make sure the device is ready for consumers, we shall wait on to see who goes first. Huawei says they are taking a “cautious” approach following the failed launch of Samsung’s own Galaxy Fold.
