The Medical Concierge Group (TMCG) today has announced another first coming to the Uganda health care landscape. TMCG will launch a chain of modern telemedicine clinics across Kampala and in other major towns.
Telemedicine involves the use of information and communication technologies and smart medical devices to deliver health care to patients at a remote location. This will complement TMCG’s renown medical contact centre and recent pharmacy delivery and laboratory sample pick up services.
TMCG has partnered with AMD Global Telemedicine, a world-leading provider of telemedicine software that integrates with medical devices. TMCG and AMD jointly made the announcement at the recently concluded American Telemedicine Association (ATA) convention in New Orleans, USA.
Speaking at the convention, Dr. Davis Musinguzi, Managing Director of TMCG remarked, “This is the beginning of health care 2.0 in Africa where the smartest medical doctors, the most advanced AI and smart medical devices all combine to create a new digital health care value chain that puts the priorities of the patient at the centre of health care to achieve the best experience. ”
TMCG will use AMD’s new and superior AGNES Connect telemedicine platform to remotely manage include digital stethoscopes, all vital signs monitors and multiscope cameras for dermatology, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) among many others operated by medical staff on-site.
The on-site medical staff, smart medical devices and AGNES Connect will facilitate a detailed physical medical examination involving live streaming of readings and video to TMCG’s contact center that hosts its medical doctors. All this health data will be directly integrated into TMCG’s secure electronic medical records system to support efficient monitoring for the best outcomes and subsequent visits.
TMCG will open the doors to its flagship modern clinics in July 2019 to subscribed TMCG telemedicine members, insurance and walk-in clients. Discussions to have the telemedicine clinics within the premises of leading pharmacies across Kampala and upcountry are also underway.
The clinics shall focus on a convenient, high quality and express service model accessible in your local neighbourhood. Patients will be able to make appointments to eliminate waiting times and queues, receive lab results electronically explained by the medical doctors at the contact center and have any prescriptions delivered to their preferred location by a health professional.
Last October, TMCG launched Africa’s first artificial intelligence (AI) health symptom checker chat-bot, Mirembe. More information on TMCG’s latest ventures in digital health and telemedicine can be found in their recent release of their 2018 Annual report.
