I was first introduced to the Infinix Note Series with the Note 3 and along the way, what struck me besides its build quality was its specs to price ratio. How could they offer such a beefier spec sheet for that kind of money? I asked. It turns that most if not all those key selling points have continued that the current Note 7 is carrying on the same goodwill albeit at an affordable price.
Price has always been one differentiator between Infinix, it’s kin and then the competition and the legacy continues with the Infinix Note 7. It comes with a high performance G70 processor, 48MP Quad AI camera + 16MP in-display selfie camera, dual stereo speakers, a 6.95 Infinity O display, Android 10 plus a gargantuan 5000mAH battery with fast charging at around UGX 650,000 for the base model. This almost completes the 2020 mid-range spec sheet but not without some caveat. So let’s break it down.

The hardware and design
The Infinix Note 7 feels solid in its plastic unibody design but a tad heavy than it actually looks. It shines with less bezels than its predecessor. The fingerprint sensor is now mounted on the sides than the back, sitting next to volume rockers.

The back houses the Quad camera setup and down you’ll find the micro-USB charger with speaker grills and the endangered headphone jack.
Overall, the Note 7 has a refined design that even makes it more appealing than its predecessor, it’s like Infinix did its homework on this one.
What makes the Note 7 a note is actually its screen size. It continues the tradition with a large 6.95 HD+ display. It’s large enough for YouTube & Netflix binges but its HD+ resolution is the one thing that makes it fall short of the perfect screen. This means all content viewed on the screen can’t go beyond 720p on such a large screen. A brightly lit and hi-res screen of at least 1080p could have come in handy given the phone’s size.
The Infinix Note 7 also omits the X-Pen stylus but one-handed use is still possible with gesture-based navigation and tweaks.

The performance
The Note 7 also shines bright here. Simply put, it delivers. It works smoothly with no hiccups and executed every task thrown at it with no noticeable deterioration in performance.
Thanks to the G70 processor that’s also prized for its gaming capabilities, I played Call of Duty Mobile, Formula 1, and Asphalt 9 and a few other titles smoothly. Infinix even shipped the phone with a game mode for optimizations towards this particular task at just a tap of the button.
The 64GB + 4GB of ROM & RAM combination paired with Android 10 also added to the goodwill we’ve noticed thus far, animations were smooth, the same applies to multi-tasking so switching between apps was seamless as well. It never felt like Infinix cut corners when it came to performance.
I’ll spare you the numbers since the most important part is the experience of using the phone, and this it delivered. I don’t want to sound subjective but the only thing that came close to spoiling this experience was Infinix’s own XOS operating system for its look and feel.
The cameras
Photos off the Infinix Note 7 were mostly good especially outdoors but somewhat struggled indoors especially in low light conditions. Selfies were equally fine but still, they’re best taken outdoors for the best looking shots. We live in a world where video is a standard, a good camera is no longer judged by still photos but video too. We were comfortable with what the Note 7 delivered in this department. With all that said, make sure stabilization is at its best for awesome results.

The battery
This is the winner! Imagine handling most of the tasks above plus more but still get through to almost 2 days with battery juice! This is bonkers.
XOS optimizations together with the big 5000mAh battery are largely to thank for this impressive battery performance.
And in case you’re out of battery juice, Infinix included a fast 18W charger to get you up and running quickly.

Our verdict
Infinix surely did their homework with the Note 7 and this can be seen in refinements that the Note 7 brings to the table at such an affordable price for the base model. Already, this is impressive and we can only imagine what the beefier options have to offer.
Should you go ahead and buy it ? Yes, you should.
