Just the other week, we exclusively told you about the global Taxify rebrand that saw it change name to Bolt – with a motion to bring on board more options such as scooters to its service list, as well as a try in the public transport market.
The latest version of the ride-hailing app is now displaying as Bolt. Should this not be the case with yours please ensure that you update the app to the latest version.
The company states that the new update brings the brand’s identity in line with the company’s broader vision of transportation that has already expanded from ride hailing, with cars and motorbikes, to scooter sharing.
How about a celebrity driver?
Imagine requesting for a ride, to quickly find your way to office or home, and the driver that pops up is someone that you see on TV or listen to on radio everyday? This is what the celebrity driver experience with Bolt is basically about.
The company has made friends with a number of public figures who will have the driver app installed with them, waiting for that beep to pick you up. We can’t know when this could get started, but it’s an exciting moment you can’t miss out.

Rebranded competition
The company has been the closest to Uber in competition for the taxi app-hailing services in and around Kampala, with reasonably challenging price cuts. There is no doubt that a rebrand will ensure a much busier competition and more gains for the customer at the end of the day.
Similarly, Bolt launched a boda-boda hailing option called Taxify Boda (which will ultimately become Bolt Boda), and has been number two to SafeBoda – with the latter having more riders and a wider clientele to serve. We can only wait to see what the new face will offer better, with at least a knowledge of lower prices already on the table.
The only limitation that the brand must work upon is expansion outside the city to other developing towns and suburbs. There is a lot of market out there waiting for the services.
Bolt has existed since 2013 and has operations in over 30 countries globally. In Africa, it operates in Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria.
