Talkio Mobile, another MVNO, launching soon in Uganda

Forget about the long-running duopoly that has kept the Ugandan telecom industry on remote control for a while now. A new technology dawn, on the mobile network scene, is upon us. Talkio Mobile, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) offering innovative technology and communication solutions is launching soon in Uganda.

A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MBNO) is a wireless communication service provider that does not own its own network infrastructure but instead leases network capacity from a major mobile network operator (MNO) to offer its services.

Unlike the traditional telecom service providers we have grown to use, MVNOs do not have to invest in building and maintaining their own network infrastructure, which can be a costly and time-consuming process. Instead, they rely on the network infrastructure of larger carriers, which allows them to offer their services at lower prices.

While MVNOs use the same network as MNOs, they typically offer different pricing plans and services. They, as well, may cater to specific demographics or niches, such as offering prepaid plans or international calling options, and may also have different customer service options or features.

    What is Talkio Mobile promising?

So far, the picture on what to expect is blurry — though a launch is imminent.

Talkio Mobile states that they have access to different types of network technologies, both legacy and modern, that allow them to offer a variety of services to their customers.

    Here’s a breakdown:

    • 3G, 4G, 5G: generations of mobile network technologies that provide wireless communication services to mobile devices.
    • WIFI6: to provide faster data transfer speeds and better performance in crowded areas than previous WiFi standards.
    • IMS: a framework that enables the delivery of multimedia services, such as voice, video, and messaging, over IP networks.
    • SDWAN: which allows for the management of multiple network connections from different sources to improve network performance and reliability.
    • FTTX: This refers to Fiber-to-the-x, which bring high-speed internet and other communications services to homes and businesses.

Our customers are to benefit from the unmatched combination of value, quality and unwavering obsession through offering them the best possible service experience and undisputable drive for disruption that creates competition and innovation in inter connectivity and beyond,” Talkio Mobile adds.

    The beauty

MVNOs can offer more flexibility in terms of pricing and service plans because they do not have to invest in building and maintaining their own network infrastructure. This allows them to offer more affordable plans to customers, which can be an advantage in terms of service delivery.

However, because MVNOs rely on the network infrastructure of larger carriers, they may not have the same level of network coverage and speed as the MNO they lease from. This can result in slower data speeds or weaker signals in certain areas, which may impact the customer experience.

So, we wait to see the unique services that Talkio Mobile will put across the table, and what offer will get you moved to subscribe and join the new network.
