    Sure Telecom rebrands to Smart Telecom, launches in Uganda with UGX 74 per voice call

    In a crowded market of telecom companies, today Smart Telecom (Sure Telecom) the Singaporean based telecommunication company has officially opened shop  under the slogan Lets Talk. The company has invested close to $400 millions in its operation and they are ready to give Ugandans their voice and data services.

    Before they launched Smart Telecom run a campaign that asked several people to participate in naming the new telecom company(#giveusanameug).

    They company has also announced that unlike other telecom companies they will charge only UGX 74 ($0.03) per call. Yes you read right, 74 shs per call.  They strongly believe that their journey will strongly impact Africa, and Uganda will be the managing country for this Smart Telecom for the three countries where it is launching. Where as they have announced their voice charges, the company is yet to announce its data rates as well.

    The Telco will use the 074 prefix and the sad part is that they launch at a time when competition is very stiff. Smart will stand against competition from MTN, Airtel which recently acquired another operator Warid Telecom, Orange, Uganda Telecom, smile telecom,k2,Itel among others.
