Stanbic Bank customers will enjoy free online and mobile payments for DSTV

DSTV has ran into a partnership with Stanbic Bank to allow the bank customers freely pay their DSTV subscription without incurring extra transactional costs. The move will allow Stanbic customers do seamless instant payments using the banks’s digital solutions that include a mobile app, over the web and mobile banking over USSD using the *290# code.

While many have cried foul over extra charges that accrue to their accounts in an event of them paying for a DSTV subscription say over conventional mobile money,  Stanbic Bank customers will however be excused. These charges won’t be extended to their accounts should they pay for DSTV using the bank’s digital solutions.

However for this to happen, the bank’s customers have to have registered for mobile or online banking since the sign in process will require their digital IDs.  After logging in, one has to select Transact> Buy Prepaid > TV Subscription > DSTV and then follow prompts to complete the payment. Similarly those using mobile Banking should dial *290# and follow prompts to complete DSTV payments.

The bank then alerts the customer about the successful completion of payments and a deduction against which the payment was made. Shortly after, the customer’s DSTV decoder reconnects to normal service.

“As a technology-driven company, MultiChoice is continuously looking at utilising the latest digital platforms for the benefit of our clients and the partnership with Stanbic allows us to achieve this objective. The biggest advantage now is the versatility of the Stanbic digital banking platforms that interface directly with our billing system which customers can access at no extra cost.”

“This means our clients get instantly reconnected once they have made the mobile or online payment without the need to queue up at our offices or line up at a banking hall,” says Charles Hamya, MultiChoice Uganda’s General Manager.

If MultiChoice can strike similar partnerships with other lenders or mobile payments solutions providers, it will eventually erase the extra transactional charges that cumulatively turn into an annoyance and save its customers money, something that translates into customer satisfaction.

Speaking at the same event, Chief Executive – Stanbic Bank Uganda Patrick Mweheire said: “We are pleased to be partnering with MultiChoice as we continue to create more innovative banking solutions that provide our customers with greater convenience and flexibility to bank on the move. By using the Stanbic digital solutions, customers will enjoy the ability to instantly renew their subscriptions and will not incur any extra charges for this service.”
