    Spotify Wrapped: Here is what Ugandans listened to the most in 2021

    If 2020 was the year that flipped the world on its head, 2021 was the year that we got used to seeing things upside down. With “normal” thrown out the window, we embraced the unknown and championed all of the things that make each of us unique. Spotify Wrapped 2021is a celebration of this — the millions of weird and wonderful ways to listen and live in a world that continues to keep us on our toes.

    The music streaming giant is today unveiling its annual Spotify Wrapped 2021 campaign and personalized user experience inspired by just that. At the same time, we’re unveiling the top artists, albums, songs, playlists, and podcasts from the creators that helped soundtrack the year for more than 381 million users worldwide.

    Spotify Wrapped is the company’s annual round-up of the top artists, albums, songs, and playlists of the year as streamed by users on the platform from around the world. 2021 also marked Spotify’s official entry into the Ugandan market. Which artists and songs kept Ugandans entertained this year? Who were the local artists who Ugandan Spotify users listened to most?

    Spotify Wrapped: But who is Uthman and $hyli?

    • Drake is Uganda’s most streamed artist, followed by Justin Bieber. Nigerian artists received plenty of love from Uganda, with Burna Boy coming in as the third most streamed artist, and WizKid the fourth. Rounding up the top five is American rapper Kanye West. 
    • The most streamed track in Uganda is Ruger’s Bounce, followed by Fireboy DML’s  Peru  then Understand by Omah Lay  is the third most streamed track in Uganda. Joeboy’s Sip (Alcohol)  is fourth, and The Kid LAROI’s  STAY (with Justin Bieber) is fifth. 
    • Uthman is the most streamed local artist in Uganda, followed by Azawi, who is also the most streamed local female artist in Uganda. $hyli is third, then Eddy Kenzo is fourth. Sheebah closes off the top five and is also the second most streamed local female artist.
