Spotify is making available a feather-weight version of its music streaming app – called Spotify Lite – targeting users in emerging markets like Uganda where data costs and network availability is not as even as required.
The light app uses less storage, something that fits well with older devices and operating systems that keep asking you to increase on your storage to accommodate the apps. It weighs 10 MB, a smaller download than the main version, and it comes with the ability to set a data limit and get a notification when reaching that limit.
This should not limit your ability to search for and play your favourite songs and artists, save them, share them with others, discover new music and enjoy playlists. It also easily allows users to control their cache and clear it with a tap.
Spotify says the Lite version was “built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world” and is usable in areas with limited bandwidth.
Additionally, it can be downloaded separately and used either alongside or independently of the main app on all Android phones running version 4.3 or higher – both for free and premium users.
