Snapdragon 675 unveiled with advanced capabilities for mid-range devices

As smartphone manufacturers strive to win the bigger share of the emerging markets, mid-range smartphones are taking over the shelves and becoming the better alternative to flagships. Qualcomm is seeing the opportunity in this, and has announced the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform – specifically to suit these devices.

The new chip is a definite upgrade to the Snapdragon 670 SoC that was unveiled in August as the heir to Snapdragon 660.

The Snapdragon 675 chips are built to offer enhanced gaming capabilities, advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capability and a bigger camera support.

Qualcomm is employing 11nm LPP process technology, an octa-core Kryo 460 CPU, and Adreno 612 GPU that supports OpenGL ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan, and DirectX 12.

The company suggests that the new chipset offers 30 percent faster game launch time, 35 percent faster web browsing and 20 percent faster music launch over the previous Snapdragon SoC.

Additionally, there is support for triple camera configuration in the front or back, with features like telephoto, wide angle, super-wide image capture, and Bokeh all on board. The SoC also supports 4K video playback support as well as DisplayPort over USB Type-C compatibility.

Did I mention that Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology is embedded to the chip, to charge your smartphone battery to 50 percent in just a quarter of an hour? It is quite a lot in it.

The Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is expected to roll out in consumer devices in the first quarter of 2019. It will be an interesting addition to the next generation of mid-range devices, as they come in.
