Mistakes are often costly and sending money to the wrong number is something that happens quite often. Anyone can fall into these facets, from the mobile money agent making a mistake by interchanging a digit to you not being sure about the names on the recipient contact. You can end up sending Airtel money to a wrong number, that’s why it’s advisable to double-check the recipients name before proceeding with the transaction.
With Airtel Uganda, the process of reversing your money is no different from other telecom companies. However, keep in mind there is a reversal fee of UGX 5,000 when you send money to a wrong Airtel number and this applies to other mobile money services like payments and other forms of payments.
Here are the steps to follow when you need your money reversed back to your Airtel Mobile Money Account account.
Step 1.
Get in touch with Airtel customer support using any of the channels you can access easily. You will need to provide the amount sent and the wrong recipient contact.

Step 2
At this point, if the money is unused by the wrong recipient, the transaction can be reversed.
Step 3
Airtel contacts the wrong recipient and will ask permission to reverse the money. The reversal process usually takes 24 hours. You will be charged a UGX 5,000 reversal fee from your Airtel Money account.

The process of reversing money back to your account can be really stressful and time-consuming depending on the state of mind you’re in at the moment but it’s usually worth the struggle when it involves a lump sum amount of cash.
The last time this happened to me, I actually called the wrong recipient and had a conversation with her about reverting the money back to me. I must admit the process wasn’t pleasant as she was hesitant at first to give me back the money but later agreed to give me back part of the money.
We usually have two choices when this happens, either call the wrong recipient and convince them to send back the money or follow the normal procedures and contact customers care. Both processes have their pros and cons but the bottom line is you should be prepared to lose a portion of that money you want to be reverted.
