Raxio Data Centre has announced the integration of Liquid Intelligent Technologies’ Microsoft Azure Stack into its Tier III certified facility in Uganda.
This partnership is a significant step towards enhancing digital transformation in the region, aligning with Uganda’s National ICT Policy and National Broadband Policy, which aim to achieve 90% business digital transformation by 2040.
The Azure Stack, a localized version of Microsoft’s extensive cloud service, Azure, extends its capabilities across various environments, including data centers and remote offices.
Godfrey Sserwamukoko, General Manager of Raxio Data Centre, expressed enthusiasm about this deployment, stating, “We are excited to welcome the Microsoft Azure Stack to Raxio Data Centre. We are confident that our data hall is well-equipped to provide the ideal environment for the Azure Stack to thrive.”
Raxio Data Centre prides itself on being carrier and cloud neutral, certified to Tier III standards, and offers an impressive 99.82% uptime. The facility is designed to host up to 400 racks, providing secure colocation spaces and redundant environments for mission-critical IT infrastructure.
Sserwamukoko emphasized the importance of their design, stating, “Additionally, our data hall employs a concurrently maintainable design, offering 2N+1 design on power, cooling, connectivity, and space with no single points of failure.”
The introduction of the Azure Stack comes at a pivotal moment as businesses in Uganda increasingly adopt cloud-first strategies. This deployment is expected to accelerate cloud adoption by providing robust and flexible cloud services that meet local regulatory requirements, ensuring data sovereignty as mandated by the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
Michael Mukasa, CEO of Liquid Intelligent Technologies, highlighted the transformative potential of the Azure Stack for local businesses, stating, “The Azure Stack will be a game changer for local businesses. It will provide them with cost-effective cloud solutions, help them meet local data regulatory requirements, and enable them to run latency-sensitive business applications efficiently.”
He also noted that the Azure Stack will benefit not just large enterprises but also small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through flexible adoption models.
The Azure Stack is set to offer significant advantages, including enhanced scalability, reliability, and improved data sovereignty, bolstered by Microsoft’s high uptime and cutting-edge hardware and software. This deployment is part of a broader trend, as the Azure Stack is already operational in four other African countries: Kenya, Zambia, South Africa, and Tanzania.
