Alongside its academic mission, the Quantum School has unveiled two groundbreaking initiatives: Sky-Harvest Uganda, which seeks to revolutionize agriculture through AI and blockchain, and the Her Code Her Future Foundation, a program dedicated to addressing gender disparity in Uganda’s ICT workforce. Together, these initiatives represent a powerful commitment to leveraging technology for progress, equality, and sustainability.
Sky-Harvest Uganda: Revolutionizing Agriculture with Technology
At the heart of this initiative is Sky-Harvest Uganda, which aims to modernize agriculture through cutting-edge technologies such as AI and blockchain. By leveraging NASA’s satellite data, this program provides farmers with real-time insights into essential agricultural factors like rainfall patterns, soil health, temperature fluctuations, and pest activity. In parallel with Sky-Harvest Uganda, the Her Code Her Future Foundation seeks to address the gender disparity in Uganda’s ICT workforce, where women currently represent only 18% of the sector. This initiative is dedicated to equipping women and girls with essential skills in technology, ensuring they have a seat at the table in shaping technological advancements.
Ethel Mwebaza, spokesperson for the foundation, passionately articulated its mission: “Our work today is not just about technology—it’s about creating opportunities, changing lives, and shaping the future.” The foundation aims to provide immersive AI education that empowers young women to excel in an increasingly digital world.
Mwebaza emphasized that AI skills are no longer a luxury but a necessity for future job markets. Through initiatives like Her Code Her Future, there is a concerted effort to ensure that communities—especially women—are not left behind as industries evolve.
