In order to increase the country’s tax base, the president recently proposed to the Finance Minister to introduce a new tax on users of social media apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber, Messenger. The proposed tax would see social media users pay at least UGX 100 per day in order for the government realize over UGX 400 billion in tax revenue.
