What’s in Opera One, the redesigned browser from Opera?

Opera has announced its latest browser – Opera One, which is set to replace its flagship browser for Windows, MacOS, and Linux later this year. With a completely redesigned interface, Opera One delivers a liquid navigation experience and transforms the way users interact with their browser.

One of the key features of Opera One is its new Modular Design philosophy. The browser adapts to the user’s needs, bringing only the key features and relevant modules to the foreground when and where they are needed. The design is automatically adjusted based on context, providing a more fluid and effortless browsing experience. Opera One also integrates powerful new AI-based features, such as AI Prompts and sidebar access to ChatGPT and ChatSonic, which were added in recent updates.

Opera One’s new Multithreaded Compositor allows for faster and smoother graphics operations, delivering a high-performance user interface layer without interruption from other processes. This new architecture enables the implementation of exciting new features that differentiate Opera One from other Chromium-based browsers – among them, Tab Islands.

Tab Islands is a groundbreaking solution for users who struggle with too many open tabs. The feature delivers a smooth and intuitive experience that can help users stay on task without forcing them to change their browsing habits. Open websites are automatically grouped into tab islands based on the browsing context, and users can easily distinguish between the topics they were focusing on and switch between them.

Tab Islands can also be created manually by pressing the CTRL/Command button, selecting the tabs to group, and then right-clicking to create a tab island. They can be moved by dragging and dropping between islands, and users can add to an existing tab island by drag and drop or by pressing the small plus button on the side of the island. The islands are clearly distinguishable in the browser UX, marked by separate colors and clear borders.

The new Opera One browser is a testament to Opera’s commitment to reinventing its products to adapt to the evolving nature of the web. With its Modular Design philosophy, Multithreaded Compositor, and Tab Islands feature, Opera One delivers a fluid and intuitive browsing experience that helps users stay on task and be more productive.

While the new browser is currently available in an early access developer build, users can expect powerful new AI-based features to be added in the near future. Opera is also planning to ship an AI engine of its own in the coming months, and will continue to advance the browser UI through improvements in Modular Design.
