Today, “Ntuha” from Mbarara a new regional ride hailing app has been unveiled. This is a benefiting project from the renowned tech incubator hub Hive Colab from their new branch in Mbarara. Ntuha is a Runyankore word referring to a crested crane, the bird on the Uganda Flag and they have come to disrupt how you order and get rides around the city of milk and honey.
Safeboda has been the household name for ride-hailing business in Uganda for a couple of years now. Since it’s launched in 2016, they have registered notable milestones and we earlier speculated that their success might lead to increase funding for Ugandan startups, with investors shifting focus to Uganda, Ghana and North African countries of Egypt and Tunisia as per recent reports.
What’s the deal with Ntuha?
Started off solely as a food delivery service in 2018 where clients would order food over the phone, Ntuha has grown their business and launched a food app that allows clients to order food from local restaurants near them.
Fast forward to April this year, we saw the birth of Ntuha ride app from the same company which offers rides for motorcycles(boda-boda), special hire taxis and big trucks. Ntuha currently works with twenty boda-boda riders and four special hire taxis with presence in major divisions in Mbarara such as Nyamitanga, Kakooba, Ruti, Kapuzi, and Bihare. Their application is currently available for Android phones to download from Google play store.
They are currently running a promotion which sees customers enjoy a 50% discount on all their rides when they order from the app from all the list of their services. Will this force companies likes Bolt, Uber and safeboda to expand beyond Kampala? Leave us a comment below.
