Next Media’s Afro Mobile App is now a paid subscription service

    No more free streaming

Multimedia company Next Media is making its Afro Mobile app a paid subscription service just like Netflix or any other media streaming platform. Next Media has evolved from one television station to three television stations, web products, an online news portal, a radio station, and a media production age. The Naguru-based media house has introduced this paid tier for its app in an effort to establish additional sources of revenue apart from ads and endorsements.

From the latest breaking news to the videos on demand, live streams, music, sports, lifestyle, and entertainment, the Afro Mobile App aims to fill this gap in local and international content. With over 500,000 downloads on the Google Play Store alone, the App comes with many channels some native to Next Media and others from other media houses.

The Afro Mobile App subscription gives users exclusive access to features at several price points and durations. Users can cancel anytime, pay subscriptions at a low cost, and have unlimited viewing on all devices as long as they are logged in with the same email address.

To access the streaming app, you will have three options to subscribe to, so on top of the data bundle you buy, users will also have to part with either UGX 5,000 for a month, UGX 1,500 for a week, and UGX 500 for a day’s access. So depending on your usage, subscribers can choose what’s best for them.

After updating to the latest version of the app, users will select which tier they want to subscribe to they will be presented with the wallet option that allows payment using VISA or MasterCards, Paypal, and Mobile Money. We tested only the VISA service and Mobile money service and as you can see below, the former was not functioning as of writing this article.

I was disappointed with the fact that I couldn’t use my card so I resorted to the Mobile Money option which worked. The Afro Mobile app utilizes DPO think payments a company that enables customers a choice at the checkout by accepting credit cards, mobile money, and more allowing for Fast, secure, & easy online payment processing. This allows support for several countries that use mobile money including; Uganda (MTN and Airtel), Kenya(Safaricom MPESA and Airtel), Tanzania, Zambia, Rwanda, and Ghana. I subscribed for the monthly UGX 5,000 tier and after hitting the PAY button, I was prompted with the mobile money carrier menu to enter my Mobile Money PIN it worked successfully.
