MTN Uganda unveils an upgraded, affordable WakaNet package

MTN Uganda has unveiled substantial upgrades to its WakaNet Home broadband service, aiming to elevate the home internet experience across the nation. Launched in 2020, WakaNet has quickly established itself as a dependable broadband solution for countless households throughout Uganda.

By leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as fiber-optic connections, 5G, and 4G routers along with MiFi devices, WakaNet guarantees swift and reliable connectivity.

    A now more affordable WakaNet

One of the most notable improvements is the enhancement of WakaNet’s fiber and business internet fiber packages. The entry-level package now boasts speeds of up to 60Mbps, doubling previous speeds, yet maintaining the same attractive price tag of UGX 130,000 per month.

For those requiring even greater bandwidth, MTN offers packages ranging from 100Mbps to 500Mbps, setting a new benchmark in Uganda’s home broadband sector. Additionally, all fiber packages come equipped with unlimited data, eliminating any concerns over usage limits.

Acknowledging that fibre may not reach every corner of the country, MTN has innovatively integrated 5G technology into its offerings.

Now, customers outside fibre coverage zones can enjoy seamless high-speed internet via a complimentary 5G router included with the purchase of a 5G package starting at just UGX 130,000 monthly. Furthermore, the device features built-in battery backup, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity during power outages.

To bridge the affordability gap further, MTN has significantly lowered prices for 4G routers, reducing them from UGX 130,000 to UGX 99,000. Alongside this reduction, MTN has introduced highly affordable data packages beginning at merely UGX 55,000 monthly.

The cost of accessing the WakaNet MiFi has decreased substantially—from UGX 75,000 to UGX 50,000—along with a generous bonus of receiving 5GB free upon signing up. MTN has also launched Gaga bundles specifically designed for MiFi devices, offering flexible and economical data options.

    Enhancing security solutions

Beyond mere connectivity, MTN recognizes the importance of home security. Therefore, the company is now offering security cameras compatible with WakaNet, perfect for both indoor and outdoor applications.

These state-of-the-art surveillance systems integrate effortlessly with WakaNet, empowering homeowners to monitor their properties remotely in real-time.

Franklin Ocharo, MTN Uganda’s newly appointed General Manager for Growth & New Business, highlighted the company’s unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction.

He stated, “At MTN Uganda, we firmly believe that everyone should have unfettered access to reliable and high-speed internet—whether they’re lounging around or working from home. Our revamped WakaNet pricing and enhanced services underscore our relentless pursuit of providing top-notch broadband solutions tailored to meet the varied needs of our clientele nationwide. This initiative is integral to our overarching mission under Ambition 2025—to link every Ugandan to the advantages of contemporary living.”

The changes announced align perfectly with MTN’s ambitious goal outlined in Ambition 2025: to provide universal access to high-quality digital services, irrespective of geographical constraints or individual usage requirements.
