    MTN Uganda Takes Home Fastest Mobile Network Award from Ookla

    MTN Uganda has been crowned the leader in mobile network performance, clinching the award for Fastest Mobile Network in Uganda by Ookla, a respected internet testing and analysis company. This prestigious recognition was presented at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. MTN Uganda came ahead of Airtel and Lycamobile and this is not the first time the telecom firm is receiving this award.

    The MWC is a significant global platform for showcasing advancements in telecommunication. MTN Uganda’s achievement at this event highlights its pioneering role in the field, setting new benchmarks for network reliability and speed.

    The Ookla award is based on millions of real-world speed tests conducted by consumers across Uganda throughout Q3 and Q4 of 2023. This extensive analysis positions MTN as the undisputed champion in mobile network performance.

    “This award is a direct result of MTN’s unwavering dedication to Uganda,” said Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda. “We’ve consistently invested and upgraded our network to serve the growing needs of our customers. We acknowledge the government for fostering a stable investment environment and our team’s commitment to delivering a best-in-class network.”

    MTN understands the critical role of fast and reliable connectivity in today’s world. They’ve continuously invested in cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure to enhance network speed, coverage, and reliability. This recognition underscores their commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering communities through seamless connectivity solutions. In the Ookla speed test results MTN Uganda scored 72.7 Mbps download speeds, followed by Airtel Uganda at 59.4 Mbps and 3.39 Mbps was Lycamobile’s score as shown below. Speed Score is calculated using the download speed value and upload speed value. Each value is determined using a modified trimean.

    MTN’s dedication to excellence goes beyond just speed. Between 2020 and 2023, they’ve invested US$300 million in expanding their network infrastructure throughout Uganda. This aligns with the country’s National Broadband Policy and Vision 2040 commitments to ensure nationwide access.

    Furthermore, MTN collaborates with device manufacturers and distributors to make smartphones more affordable and accessible through financing schemes. This initiative reflects MTN’s vision of delivering the benefits of a modern connected life to all its customers.
