MTN Uganda, the leading telecommunications provider in the country, has achieved a monumental feat – reaching a staggering 20 million active customers! This milestone solidifies their position as Uganda’s undisputed telecom giant.

The company commemorated this achievement at a special staff town hall meeting, where Teopister Nakyanzi from Luweero District was revealed as the lucky 20 millionth subscriber. Teopister, alongside her son Joshua, expressed her delight at being part of this historic event. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this momentous occasion and incredibly grateful for MTN Uganda’s recognition,” she shared. Joshua, with a touch of humor, noted the serendipitous link between his age and the milestone, stating, “Maybe I’ll be the one you celebrate at 30 million!”
Yolanda Cuba, the MTN Group Vice President for Southern & Eastern Africa, emphasized the significance of this achievement. “Reaching 20 million customers is equivalent to the entire population of another African nation – that’s how remarkable this milestone truly is. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Teopister and encourage her to inspire others to join the ‘unstoppable network.'”
Sylvia Mulinge, the MTN Uganda CEO, has been a vocal advocate for greater female inclusion within the company and entrepreneurial spaces. Delighted to see a woman as the 20 millionth subscriber, she commended the entire MTN Uganda team for their dedication and tireless efforts. “This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to connecting all corners of Uganda. Together, we’ve proven that with a shared vision and collaborative spirit, no goal is unattainable,” she declared.

As a token of appreciation, Teopister received a brand new Tecno Camon 30 smartphone, an assortment of groceries, branded merchandise, and a cash reward transferred directly through MTN MoMo. The event also celebrated another significant milestone – MTN MoMo surpassing the 300,000 mark for merchants utilizing the service to receive payments for their goods and services.
