MTN Uganda now has one rate for all calls, regardless of networks

Long before the competition forced telcos to make customizable bundles as per your use, the charge for your SIM card activity was per every second you spend. For every call you made, SMS sent, or mobile data used, you were charged that way.

Then came in the voice, SMS, and data bundles – which keep swinging to the waves of the public’s demand – and we all forgot about the per second charge. However, the telecom companies didn’t. And the people with a single SIM card will tell you how expensive it is to make communication with someone on another network.

MTN Uganda has sought out a better alternative for her customers, to make it easy to link up with their contacts from the other camps.

Effective 1st April 2019, MTN customers will be able to call customers across all networks in Uganda using one rate. The standard per second rate will now be 4/- and the per minute rate 180/-.

Note that the charges do not apply for postpaid customers or when using voice bundles such as MyPakaPaka, Go-Bundle, and Paka Paka.

    How to activate

MTN Call Per Second is free to activate and de-activate. Simply dial *151*2# and then follow the on-screen prompts.

The SMS rates have remained the same as before: UGX 60 per message for SMS to MTN customers, and UGX 90 per message for SMS to other networks. Similarly, the data rates have also not been revised, with MTN mobile internet per KB costing UGX 0.5 and video calling requiring at least UGX 270.
