However, this year we can authoritatively report that MTN Uganda is now the new Internet Leader a position previously held by Africell formerly Orange. As the company aims to turn it’s over 10 million voice subscribers into data subscribers.

After UCC reaffirming the WiMAX spectrum early this year, MTN now uses the freed 2,600 MHz band for LTE FDD from the previous unpopular LTE-TDD technology that they had deployed. Africell Uganda and Smile Telecom were the firms that were utilizing LTE FDD technology in the 800MHz LTE band 10. It should be noted that the International Telecommunication Union ( ITU) recommends frequencies for region 2 (Africa and Europe) for LTE to be 800 and 2600MHz .

This means that MTN subscribers get high speed 4G LTE data speeds up to 15 times faster than their 3G network and 2 times faster the 3G+ network on compatible devices.
