    Mini Poll: What was the best mobile Telecom brand for 2019?

    It’s been a long 2019 for mobile telecom companies in Uganda the highlights of which included; UCC putting into effect the proposed telecom framework, MTN are still stuck in negotiations with the telecom regulator for a license renewal, Smile telecom introduced a somewhat true unlimited internet bundle. Also, Africell changed strategy with a whole new initiative and lets not forget the UTL saga where government officials have been clashing in a bid to revive it (TL:DR, it involved some mafias).

    The Ugandan Communications Commission (UCC) recently released its 2018 report on the state of Uganda’s communication industry and its shows growth in several sectors of the industry from voice, mobile internet, fintech, TV broadcast and postal service.

    The report detailed that the internet market is dominated by mobile internet. The mobile internet subscription now stands at 14,360,847 up from 13,569,354 reflecting a growth of 5.8%. The total market (this includes both Over the Top OTT and web access) internet penetration now stands at 37%.
