We earlier told you about Microsoft’s discontinued support for Windows 7 on PCs, an operating system that has been in existence for the over 9 years.
Just as you plan to upgrade to Windows 10, if you have been in love with the 7 over the decade, you should migrate as well from the mobile – in the case that you were still locked in it.
Microsoft posted an FAQ page with a title “Windows 10 Mobile End of Support: FAQ.” Accordingly, the page shows the company’s plans to put an end to the smartphone platform.
If your Windows 10 Mobile uses the latest version 1709, it will no longer receive any new security updates, non-security hot fixes, free assisted support options, or online technical content updates from December 10, 2019.
However, third parties or paid support programs could continue, but Microsoft says it will no longer publicly provide updates or patches for the platform. For those whose Windows 10 Mobile device uses version 1703, it will only be supported until June 11.
Eventually, creating backups for settings and apps – whether automatically and manually – will continue up to March 10, 2020.
One can manually create a backup using the Settings->Update & security->Backup->More Options and then tapping Back up now before December 10th.
Way forward?
Microsoft is actually suggesting that you should embrace an iPhone or Android handset soon enough.
“With the Windows 10 Mobile OS end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device. Microsoft’s mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices,” writes the company.
